Summer Camp at the Hall of Fame!
Girls and boys will participate in a fun-filled week of sports themed hands-on workshops, interactive exhibits, scavenger hunts and more! Each day will cover a different theme, including nutrition, fitness, team building, math in sports, science in sports, and careers in sports. Lunch and snack provided. Registration and prepayment required.
Fitness Day On this first day of camp, the campers will learn the benefits of daily fitness through various activities such as “Walking Olde Towne” which includes a historic walk through Olde Towne Portsmouth while campers use a pedometer to track their steps. Campers will also create a fitness related craft and learn and play different fitness related games that can be used at home. Also on this first day, campers will be given a chance to explore our museum with a scavenger hunt designed for our summer campers.
Nutrition Day On day two of camp, the campers will take the importance of fitness a step further by learning about the importance of nutrition. Campers will have hands-on opportunities by creating “A Balanced Meal” nutrition plate, a nutrition commercial starring your camper, and a healthy snack. There will also be time in their busy day to play some active nutrition games. Watch out, at the end of this day your camper might be asking you “should you be eating that?”

Science Day Campers are in for a real treat when we explore lots of different science categories. They will start out their day with first a physics lesson and then an engineering lesson. Both lessons will take the campers on a field trip around Olde Towne to learn more about “Playground Physics” and “Engineering 101”. Upon returning to the museum they will create a cell made out of Jell-o. Your camper will also get a hands-on experiment with Oobleck…. is it a solid or a liquid? The campers will know the answer to this question and such much more after their day of science.
Math Day Math over the summer!?! We promise your camper will not be disappointed with our day of math. To start the day off, the campers will visit six math stations where they will play a variety of math games. After lunch, the campers will learn how art and math go together with our “Tessellation Project”. This activity is sure to keep their interest in math!
Character Building Day On our last day of camp, the campers will learn and discuss the importance of having a great character. Campers will work together to figure out various character building traits by playing active games with each other. Later on in the day, your camper will get to be involved in our “Careers in Sports” program, where they will learn that there is more to a career in sports than just being the athlete.
Throughout the entire week of camp, your camper will also be learning the importance of working together with teammates and how to be a successful team member through various icebreakers and active games. We can’t wait to have your camper spend the week with us here at the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum!
