Using literature, hands-on activities and the Promethean ActivBoard, students will learn what it takes to develop winning character on and off the field. These programs are designed to encourage students to draw conclusions about respect, identifying talents, honestly, trustworthiness, self-control and teamwork.

Students will investigate wise and unwise food choices by comparing foods from The Food Pyramid with student lunch box and cafeteria choices. They will vote on their choices of healthy food, meals, and snacks using ACTIVote response devices in the ACTIVclassroom. Instant graphs will allow them to compare the results (greater than/less than, more/less, and equal to/not equal to) of their choices. They will explore the digestive system and measure the length of food’s journey through the body. Using a body fat belt, they will discover the effect of too much weight on the skeletal system. They will engage in physical activities as they act out characters in the book I’m Walking, I’m Running, I’m Jumping, I’m Hopping.

Move It!
Balance and Motion
Science: K.3, 1.2, 2.2
Using familiar objects like tennis balls, baseballs, blocks and marbles, students will discover the concept of different kinds of motions (straight, circular, back/forth) and how pushes and pulls can change motions. Students will experiment with magnets of various sizes and shapes and understand how the poles determine whether a magnet attracts or repels. They will be amazed to discover that even some foods can be magnetic!

Science: K.2

By investigating a hands-on body torso model, students will learn about the body’s amazing communication network, the five senses. They will discover the connection between the circulatory system and the brain. Students will be able to observe the reaction of the brain as it receives signals from the sensory organs: the eyes, ears, skin, nose, and tongue. Finally, they will measure their field of vision, “catch” sound, test sensitivity to touch, identify objects in odor boxes, and locate the taste buds on the tongue.

Drop those pencils, get out of those desks and get moving! Students will never forget these math skills as they combine mind and body to partcipate in innovative sports games such as the "Human Calculator" and "Jumping Jack Math."
