The tournament welcomed 30 teams for a day in the sunshine as the Hall raised money to support it mission of honoring Virginia’s storied sports traditions and educational initiatives.
The event was generously sponsored by Jim Stutzman Chevrolet, Cadillac and Buick, The Golf Centers, Miller Lite, Second Bank and Trust and Glaize Components.
The winners this year were on the Henkel Harris Furniture team (photo at right) including Bill Henkel, Greg See, Cole Whitt and Jim Kite who played with JMU football coach Mickey Mathews. Together the group shot a 54.
A close second was the team from the Winchester Group featuring celebrity Scott Cherry with a score of 55 thanks in part to a birdie on the 18th hole.
Perhaps the most dramatic moment of the day was when Sonny Randle (VSHF Class of 1991) came within an inch (according to witnesses) of sinking a hole in one that would have meant a new Buick! The ball bounced just a few feet away and the team ended up with a birdie.
Thank you to all of the sponsors, players and celebrities who made this event such a great success.
