Hall of Fame Hosts Sportsmanship Summit
with Bruce Rader From WAVY-TV
What is the state of Sportsmanship on the fields and courts of Hampton Roads? The answer was a mixed bag of good and bad as we found out at the first ever Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Sportsmanship Summit, hosted by WAVY Sports Director Bruce Rader

An invited audience of coaches and players from across the region, representing boys and girls programs from a range of sports engaged in an open dialogue about sportsmanship, and what players, coaches, and administrators can do to help make this a top priority on and off the field.
Joining us on the panel (photo above at right) was:
- Dr. David Stuckwisch, Superintendent of Portsmouth Public Schools
- Dr. Louis O. Tonelson, Principal of Kempsville High School in Virginia Beach.
- Phillip Stenstrum, the head of football officials in Hampton Roads
- William Fuller, former NFL great and local businessman, fantastic role model, and an inductee in the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.
The summit will air as a news special on WAVY-TV10 on Sunday September 10th at 6:30pm and again on WVBT Fox43 on September 17th at 6pm.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
The Hall of Fame is working on creating an ongoing Sportsmanship Committee to examine the development of a sportsmanship standard for students, coaches and fans. Details will be sent to schools in the fall, but the idea is to create a committee of concerned students who will develop guidelines to be distributed to schools.
If you are interested in hearing more or possibly getting involved in the committee, please email sportsmanship@vshfm.com.
